Heat Recovery - Air Compressors

Arbe offer systems to recover heat from air compressors, ready for use in space heating or domestic hot water.  In oil-cooled compressors, we can offer packages that recover up to 94% of the energy used to produce compressed air. This can be in the form of hot water up to 70 DegC which is stored in an Arbe AF thermal store. From here, it can then be utilised in a space heating system, with it pumped throughout a building to fan coil units to replace gas or oil fired space heaters, or it can be transferred into a potable hot water system, either as a preheat on larger systems or as the main heat source.

Around 95% of energy used in compressors is converted to heat and is wasted to atmosphere through heat dissipation and through the cooling process, with the majority of it lost through the oil cooler. By redirecting the hot oil through a high-efficiency oil to water heat exchanger, we can recover this heat, reducing costs on the heating bills on most applications.

A typical heat recovery system for a compressor can have a quick pay back on capital investment, starting at around 1-1.5 years on a DHW system and a maximum of 3 years on a full heating system. This includes installation of new fan coil units and necessary controls to ensure correct operation.

Air Compressor Heat Recovery

DHW Preheat Systems

Arbe HevaPak HRU heat recovery systems offer a solution for recovering heat from the compressors and utilising the heat for preheating cold water being fed into domestic hot water generators. This can have a big impact on fuel bills, not only in the reduced use of fossil fuels but also reduced carbon charges and taxes. There are also savings to be made by the reduction in use of the cooling fans on compressors, bringing operating costs down for compressed air production.

A typical preheat system would consist of the following:

  • Connections to the compressor(s)

  • Thermal store

  • Feed pumps

  • Indirect cylinder

  • Control valves

  • Pasteurisation system

  • PLC Controls package

Our systems are bespoke for each application with a site survey and full technical design completed for each project, showing payback and carbon reduction figures.

Air Compressor Heat Recovery

Space Heating Systems

Arbe HevaPak HRU heat recovery systems can be installed to recover heat and distribute throughout a factory or other building for space heating. Our systems can be supplied into traditional radiator systems or new systems using fan coil units or underfloor heating.

  • Heat emitters such as radiators, fan coil units or underfloor heating

  • Integration heat exchanger, if required

  • PLC Controls package

Our systems are bespoke for each application with a site survey and full technical design completed for each project, showing payback and carbon reduction figures.
